The app
Webcam Uplink runs on your Mac. Video, audio and camera control go only to the NVRs, apps and Home Assistant broker you point at it on your network. There is no account and no cloud service, and the app has no analytics or telemetry.
The one request the app makes to the internet is a daily update check: it downloads a signed list of releases from our download server. Cloudflare, which hosts that server, sees the request like any web server does (your IP address and the app version). We look only at aggregate counts of those checks, never at individual addresses. Turn the check off in Settings › Updates.
The waitlist
When you join the waitlist we store:
- your email address;
- the date and time you ticked the consent box, and which version of its wording you saw;
- which form and which of our web addresses you used;
- your answers to the two optional questions (your NVR and your camera), if you gave them;
- a random unsubscribe code.
We don't store your IP address. To stop abuse, the form counts submissions per connection using a salted, one-way hash of your IP address that changes every day; those counters are deleted after two days.
What we use it for: one email when the private beta opens (we may invite you to it, using your answers to pick a mix of NVRs) and one when Webcam Uplink launches. No newsletter, and we never sell or share the list. The legal basis is your consent.
Where it lives: in a Cloudflare D1 database (Cloudflare, Inc. acts as our processor). To send those two emails we copy the list, at sending time, into an email service (Buttondown or Kit) with open and click tracking turned off.
How long: until you unsubscribe, or 1 year after launch, whichever comes first. Then the list is deleted.
Leaving: every email has an unsubscribe link. Using it deletes your entry, not just hides it: our link deletes it at once, and if you use the email service's own link, we delete your entry from our list before we send anything else. The copy at the email service is deleted after each send. You can also write to support@webcamuplink.com to see, correct or delete what we hold about you.
This website
The site has no analytics, sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties.
Cloudflare serves the site and, like any web host, processes your IP address to deliver pages and protect against attacks. We don't keep request logs: the site records only its own error messages, which contain no IP address and no email address.
