Terms of sale and licence
Last updated 2026-10-25.
These terms cover Webcam Uplink downloaded from this website, its Free tier and trial, and Webcam Uplink Pro bought here. We've written them to be read. Webcam Uplink is made by Jay Pathak (“we”, “us”).
Got it from the Mac App Store? Apple's terms apply to that copy, and refunds go through Apple: see Mac App Store purchases.
Nothing here takes away rights that the consumer law of your country gives you and that can't be waived.
In short
- Free is free for as long as you like: one camera, up to 720p, with a small watermark.
- The trial gives you 14 days of Pro on each Mac, then steps down to Free. Nothing is charged, and your camera stream never stops.
- Pro is one payment, not a subscription: $29 at the launch price, then $39. One licence covers all Macs in one household, and every 1.x update is free.
- Refunds within 30 days of buying, no questions asked.
- It's not an alarm system. It can't promise that every moment is recorded.
1. The licence agreement
This section is the end-user licence agreement (EULA) for the edition you download from this website. Webcam Uplink is licensed to you, not sold. We give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it on Macs you own or use, on the terms on this page.
- Free and the trial: anyone may use them, at no cost, within the limits in The Free tier and The trial.
- Pro: one licence covers all Macs in one household: you and the people you live with, on the Macs you own or use at home. A business, school or other organisation needs one licence for each site (each building or address) where it uses Webcam Uplink. We don't count Macs or activations; we trust you.
- You may not: sell, rent or lend Webcam Uplink or a licence key; share a key outside your household or post it publicly; remove, bypass or change the licence check, the trial or the Free watermark; or modify, decompile or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows that whatever this licence says.
- Use it lawfully. You're responsible for how you use the camera, including telling people they're being filmed or recorded where the law requires it.
- Ownership: Webcam Uplink belongs to us. Open-source parts of it keep their own licences.
- Ending: the licence ends if you break these terms. If it ends, stop using the app.
2. The Free tier
Free has no time limit and needs no account. It includes:
- one camera;
- the stream your NVR receives, over RTSP and ONVIF®, at up to 720p (no more pixels than 1280 × 720, so a 4:3 camera streams at 1104 × 828);
- a small “Webcam Uplink Free” watermark in the bottom-right corner of the video your NVR receives, on both the main and the sub stream. It isn't added to the virtual camera;
- the privacy switch (camera off).
Free doesn't include PTZ or presets (your NVR still shows its PTZ controls, but moves are refused), AI person tracking, the virtual camera while the NVR feed is running (on Free you use one or the other), Home Assistant switches, hand-off between Macs, 1080p and 4K, or more than one camera. Pro includes all of these and has no watermark.
A licence change never stops a stream. When a trial ends or a licence stops working, a camera that's streaming keeps its picture and its PTZ. The 720p limit, the watermark and the PTZ limit apply from the next time you start that camera. When you activate Pro, the watermark goes at once, without restarting the stream, and the 720p limit lifts from that camera's next start.
3. The trial
The first time you open Webcam Uplink on a Mac, it runs as Pro for 14 days. You don't need an account, an email address or a card. The days count whether or not the app is running, and reinstalling it doesn't start the trial again. When the trial ends, the app steps down to Free by itself. Nothing is charged and nothing is switched off.
4. Buying Pro (terms of sale)
- Price: a one-time payment, with no subscription and no renewal. Pro is $39, and $29 for the first 30 days after it goes on sale. Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT, where it's due, is worked out from where you are and shown at checkout before you pay.
- Who sells it: Stripe sells you the licence as merchant of record: it takes the payment, charges and pays any sales tax or VAT, and sends your receipt, and Stripe's own terms also apply to the payment. We grant the licence on this page, and we issue refunds through Stripe. We never see your card.
- What you get: a licence key for Webcam Uplink Pro 1.x, made out to the email address you paid with. It appears on the page after checkout and arrives by email. See Licence keys.
- What it covers: all Macs in one household, as in section 1.
- Updates: every 1.x update is free. Your 1.x licence doesn't expire.
- Version 2: if we release a version 2, upgrading to it will be optional and paid, at about half the list price for people who own a 1.x licence. If you bought Pro in the 90 days before version 2 comes out, the upgrade is free. You don't have to upgrade: your key keeps working with 1.x.
- Price changes apply only to purchases made after the change.
5. Refunds
If Webcam Uplink isn't right for you, you can have your money back within 30 days of buying, for any reason, no questions asked.
- How: write to support@webcamuplink.com from the email address you paid with, or tell us that address.
- What happens: we refund the full amount through Stripe to the way you paid. Banks usually take 5 to 10 business days to show it.
- Your key: a refunded key is revoked. A later update of Webcam Uplink stops accepting it, and the app then steps down to Free. Your stream keeps running.
- Disputes: a payment dispute (a chargeback) also ends the licence, unless the dispute is settled in our favour; if it is, a later update accepts the key again. Please write to us first: a refund is quicker.
- After 30 days we don't give refunds, except where the law of your country says we must. Our 30-day refund is longer than the 14-day withdrawal period that EU and UK law sets for many online purchases.
Bought in the Mac App Store? Apple handles those refunds: see Mac App Store purchases.
6. Licence keys
- Your key is a long code that starts with
WU1-. It's made out to the email address you paid with, and Webcam Uplink shows that address in its settings. - Use the same key on every Mac your licence covers: paste it in Settings › Licence and choose Activate, or use the “Open in Webcam Uplink” button on the page after checkout.
- The key is checked on your Mac, offline. Webcam Uplink never contacts us to check a licence, so Pro works on a network with no internet access.
- Keep it to your household. A key that's posted publicly, refunded or charged back goes on a list of revoked keys in a later update, which then treats it as invalid and steps down to Free. Streams keep running.
- A 1.x key works with every 1.x version, and with version 2 only as described in Buying Pro.
- Lost it? Have it emailed again to the address you paid with.
- Keys from this site don't unlock the Mac App Store edition, and an App Store purchase doesn't come with a key.
7. Updates
The edition from this website checks for updates once a day by downloading a signed list of releases from our download server. You can turn that off in Settings › Updates. An update is installed only when you choose to, or, if you turn on automatic installs, when the app next quits. Your licence doesn't expire, but we can't promise that every future version of macOS will run every version of Webcam Uplink.
8. Mac App Store purchases
If you got Webcam Uplink from the Mac App Store, that copy is licensed to you under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, not under section 1. Pro in that edition is an in-app purchase sold by Apple, so the Apple Media Services Terms cover the price, the payment and refunds. An App Store purchase belongs to the Apple ID that bought it.
- Refunds: ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't refund App Store purchases ourselves.
- Restoring Pro on another Mac or after a reinstall: use Restore Purchases in Webcam Uplink, signed in with the Apple ID you bought with. The support page has the steps.
- Licence keys don't apply to the App Store edition, and the App Store, not our download server, updates it.
For an App Store copy, Apple's terms replace this page, except for section 9, which is a safety note that applies to every copy.
9. Not a security or alarm system
Webcam Uplink turns a Mac and a USB webcam into a network camera. It isn't a certified security, alarm or safety product, and it can't promise that every moment is streamed or recorded: Macs sleep, restart and update, cameras get unplugged, networks drop, and your NVR, not Webcam Uplink, does the recording. Don't rely on it alone where a missed recording could put people or property at risk.
10. Warranty and liability
As far as the law allows, Webcam Uplink is provided “as is”, without any warranty, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost, missing or incomplete recordings. As far as the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us for Pro. None of this limits liability that the law doesn't let us limit.
11. Everything else
- Privacy: what the app, the website and a purchase collect is on the privacy page.
- Other companies' products: NVRs, cameras and other products named on this site are made by others, who are not connected with us. Their updates, including camera firmware, can change what works.
- Changes: we may update these terms; the date at the top says when. A change applies to purchases made after it and never takes away a licence you've already bought.
- If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
